Talladega Police Department swears in new officers

(Talladega, AL) Talladega police officers Robert Crowe, Eduardo Juarez, Joshua McNeal and Mohammad Qureshi were recently sworn in by Judge Mark Smith Nelson during a ceremony at city hall.

“While many police departments throughout the nation are facing recruitment challenges, the Talladega Police Department has sworn in eight new officers in the past two months,” said Interim Police Chief Ronald McElrath. “We are thrilled to welcome our new officers and excited about the positive impact they will have in the community.”

City Manager Derrick Swanson stated, "I am excited about the Talladega Police Department’s growth, and committed to providing our new officers with the training and equipment needed to best ensure success."

APOSTC certified officer Mohammad Qureshi, who previously served in the Birmingham Police Department, said, “Life's journey has led me to an unexpected but meaningful calling in law enforcement. I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve with the Talladega Police Department, where I can make a positive difference in people's lives through protecting and serving our community.​​“

APOSTC certified officer Joshua McNeal, who comes to Talladega from the Macon County Sheriff's Office, also expressed enthusiasm about joining TPD. "I’m so excited to be a part of the amazing Talladega Police Department because I see it potential. I love it here. The transition was smooth and people actually care about you here. This feels like my final stop. Thank you Talladega for welcoming me with open arms," he said.

Eduardo Juarez, a Talladega High School graduate who was born in Tampa, Florida, and raised in Talladega, said, "I became an officer because I wanted a profession that would allow me to help others. I am so excited to serve in the Talladega Police Department because I will be able to aid individuals in need. As a person who is always willing to help others, this position fits my character."

Robert Crowe, a native of Talladega who resides in Lincoln, said, “I’m beyond excited to be able to be a part of the Talladega Police Department and be able to do my part for the community that I was born and raised in."
