Talladega Parks & Rec headed to ARPA State Tournament

(Talladega, AL) The City of Talladega is thrilled to announce that its 8U and 10U Talladega Parks and Recreation Boys All-Stars Teams are advancing to the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) State Tournament, which will be held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, March 21 - 23, 2025.

Members of the 8U Boys All-Stars Team include Nigel Barclay, Zoreigh Barnett,  Zakylin Brown, Ashton Green, Charles Griffin, Takarris Robinson, Brayden Sanders, Jakason Scott, Da’Kavian Shirel, Gerod Stripling and Jeremy Weed Jr.

The players earned a space at the prestigious ARPA State Tournament after winning second place in the 2025 Parks and Recreation District Tournament in Eastaboga, Alabama.

The 10U Boys All-Stars Team is comprised of Christian Braxton, Landyn Chapman, Xzavier Chatman, Vick Collins, Landan Dickerson, Brayden Garrett, Bryant Hamilton, Kash Kelly, Kendreon Millender, De’Travious Taylor and Javin White.  The 10U team secured a spot at the state tournament after placing second in the 2025 10U Boys District Tournament in Lincoln, Alabama.

“I applaud 8U Coach Andre Green and 10U Coach Carlos Braxton for helping their players to make it to the ARPA State Tournament,” said Athletics Coordinator Eric Walker. “Advancing to the state level brings pride to our players, their families and our community.  It also increases awareness of our athletic programs and helps us continue to attract youth who desire to develop better basketball skills.”

“Team sports help youth to develop leadership skills and learn about discipline and accountability while also having fun,” said Talladega Parks and Recreation Director Summer Ammons. “I encourage parents to check out all of the wonderful programs and activities we offer for children and youth, including basketball, baseball, T-ball, swim, softball, soccer, football, cheerleading and archery.”

City Manager Derrick Swanson added, “Our parks and recreation programs are helping to build a stronger community, and we are excited about continuing to promote health and increase physical activity by providing a wide array of beneficial activities for children, youth and adults.”
