Talladega High School students construct cocoa stands for Christmas on the Square
December 12, 2024
(Talladega, AL) When residents and visitors head downtown for Christmas on the Square this weekend, December 13 - 15, 2024, they will be pleasantly surprised to see a new addition to Talladega's annual event - two old-fashioned cocoa strands. The stands were constructed by Talladega High School Career/Tech Center students, who also painted mantels for Santa's Workshop.
“It is so exciting to see youth giving back to our community,” said City Manager Derrick Swanson. “I commend and thank Talladega High School staff and students, Chamber Ambassadors and others who are working hard to ensure that Christmas on the Square 2024 will be a great success.”
Talladega City Schools Superintendent Dr. Quentin Lee said, "It’s extremely important for our scholars to realize that our schools are not only in the community, but we are a part of the community. Serving should be at the core fabric of our unity as a community. It’s a joy to see the many fruits of our labor as we help shape the community to be a better Talladega."
"As Talladega City Schools Career and Technical Education Director, my philosophy is to assist students with identifying their skills and talents, and connecting educational opportunities to develop those skills, talents, and abilities. I want to bring relevance to our students’ high-level workforce skills and academic abilities," said Director Simmons. "This will in turn foster supportive relationships between our students and teachers and between our teachers and the community's workforce. With our partnership with the City of Talladega, we will make sure our students are College or Career Ready. The future of our young people is bright and I am excited for the opportunity to assist them in reaching their dreams."
