Talladega City Manager urges staff to secure library cards

Talladega City Manager urges staff to secure library cards

(Talladega, AL) Libraries are essential.

That is why City Manager Derrick Swanson is asking all department heads and their staff to support Talladega Armstrong-Osborne Public Library by securing a library card this month. During a recent staff meeting, he asked staff to hold up their library cards.  While many employees had library cards, many others did not.

"In addition to having an outstanding Summer Reading Program, the library contributes so much to our community throughout the year," said Swanson. “You can show your support by getting a library card, checking out items regularly, and attending library programs and activities.”

"I am thrilled that our city manager is helping to promote the importance of library cards, which give patrons free access to thousands of wonderful print and electronic items,” said Library Director Vickie Harkins.  "Although the Summer Reading Program has ended, we encourage children, teens and adults to continue reading.”

The library also provides a wide array of services and activities, including Children’s Storytime, Historic Talladega Bookworms book club, Yoga with Fitness Bee Brittany Lee, book talks with fascinating authors, monthly movies, painting classes, community projects, a Genealogy Room, diverse apps, wifi access and more.

Swanson and Harkins hope to see more residents throughout the community take advantage of the many outstanding offerings and secure library cards.

For more information, please email the library at talladeg@yahoo.com or call 256-362-4211 or 256-362-4251.
