Mayor Hall honors scholarship recipients

(Talladega, AL) Mayor Ashton Hall honored Talladega High School senior Jacaven Jace Roberson and Talladega County Central High School senior Jamier Duncan on Monday at Talladega City Hall. Jacaven and Jamier are both recipients of inaugural Mayoral Masquerade Ball scholarships.

Jamier, who plans to attend Jacksonville State University, and Jacaven, who plans to attend Talladega College, each received $1000 awards. Funds for the scholarships were raised via Talladega's first-ever Mayoral Masquerade Ball, which was held at Talladega Bottling Works in December, 2023.

City Manager Derrick Swanson, Ward 1 Councilman Steve Dickerson and other city leaders joined Jamier, Jacaven, and their families at Monday’s program.

“I commend Mayor Hall for establishing an exemplary scholarship fundraiser. In addition to helping students and their families to reduce the financial burden of college, the Mayoral Masquerade Ball promotes academic achievement as well as philanthropy," said City Manager Derrick Swanson.

Mayor Hall said, "I wish Jacaven and Jamier the very best. I encourage all students to reach for the stars and not allow anyone or anything to deter them from achieving their goals. This is the underlying message in almost every speech I give to youth in our community. I want to see our students win big and make Talladega proud.”

Plan are underway for the second annual Mayoral Masquerade Ball.
