Councilman Sims celebrates students at HKS prom

(Talladega, AL) During a fun-filled prom for Helen Keller School (HKS) students, City of Talladega Councilman Hugh Sims was proud to be photographed with the institution's Emerging Eagles. Councilman Sims noted that the dynamic Emerging Eagles recently volunteered to help unload diapers at Diaper Row, which distributes free diapers to those in need on the first Saturday of each month.

The HKS students, who epitomize AIDB's motto "Deaf. Blind. Limitless," had a great time at the prom for students 16 and older. The event was held at Talladega Bottling Works, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion.

Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind President Dr. Dennis Gilliam said, "Our students at Helen Keller School are like every other student body. They like to dance, sing, workout and party, and it is important for AIDB to give them these opportunities. We are here to serve them and for the community to support them."

He added that the students love being integrated into the community through various projects, including Emerging Eagles activities.

Diaper Row's next monthly distribution of diapers to those in need will be Saturday, May 4, 2024, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Church, which is located at 208 North Street.
