City manager participates in United Way Community Bed Build Program

(Talladega, AL) City Manager Derrick Swanson was honored to join the United Way of North Talladega County in delivering beds to community members on June 11, 2024.

“I commend United Way of North Talladega County volunteers for working together to ensure that children in need have beds to sleep on," said Swanson.

“Helping to deliver beds was an emotional experience for me. I saw firsthand how excited and overjoyed the children were when we arrived," he added. “The common comforts that most of us take for granted are sometimes a luxury for families in need.”

United Way of North Talladega County Executive Director Valerie Burrage said, “The weekly bed deliveries provide a child a new bed and bedding. We assemble the beds that are built during our Community Bed Build Day. The Community Bed Build Program provides an opportunity for individuals, community partners, civic organizations, churches and other service organizations to come together for one purpose — getting kids off the floor and into their own bed.”

Mr. Swanson believes Talladega is blessed to have so many dedicated volunteers who are “clearly committed” to making a difference in our community.

If you would like to help, join the United Way of North Talladega County on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 7 p.m., for Three on a String. The performance, which will be held at the Historic Talladega Ritz Theatre, will support the United Way's Community Bed Build on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot.
