City of Talladega employees join forces to support Red Door Kitchen

(Talladega, AL) City Manager Derrick Swanson and his staff are finding exciting new ways to demonstrate how much they care about Talladega. Recently, when Swanson urged employees to consider volunteering for local organizations, the response was impressive.
"In conjunction with our We Love Talladega campaign, ten city employees have committed to assisting Red Door Kitchen for one hour per month," said City Manager Derrick Swanson. "In addition to having the pleasure of supporting an outstanding organization, city employees will have an opportunity to get to know, assist and better understand the needs of some of the residents we serve throughout the year."
"I recently had an opportunity to tour Red Door Kitchen and help deliver meals,” he added. “The volunteers and employees are dedicated and passionate about serving the community. The recipients, many of whom are elderly, are so appreciative of the meals they receive. I am thrilled that city employees will have an opportunity to show their love for Talladega by supporting such a worthy cause.”
Greg Cuzzort, a Red Door Kitchen volunteer coordinator and board member who has served the organization since 2018, said, ”The charter of the Red Door Kitchen is to provide nutritious and balanced meals to the patrons of our community requiring a helping hand. Our volunteers, however, provide much more than a meal to those patrons by providing a listening ear and an encouraging word of hope to those who may need it the most.”
With the generous support of community members, the Red Door Kitchen has served Talladega since 1984. Community members interested in joining the food delivery team; donating canned food items to assist those in need; or helping to stock the food bank may call the Red Door Kitchen at (256) 362-3663.
