City employee Thai Fowell awarded scholarship for MSCIS at Talladega College

Thai Fowell, a former City of Talladega intern who now serves as an administrative assistant in the finance department, has been awarded the prestigious Ambassador Donatus St. Aimee Scholarship. The St. Lucia, West Indies native holds a B.A. in business administration from Talladega College, where she now plans to pursue a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems. She was a member of the inaugural class to complete the city’s new internship program, which was created in partnership with CareerLIFE.

"I graduated magna cum laude from Talladega College last May, earning a Bachelor of Arts in business administration with a concentration in finance and banking,” said Thai, who interned in the Talladega Fire Department and the City Manager’s Office. "CareerLIFE gave me my first opportunity to gain professional experience in the working world."

CareerLIFE interns gain work experience, network, and develop job skills. In addition, they learn skills such as goal setting, interview readiness, career exploration and time management during special training sessions.

"We are proud of our inaugural class of CareerLIFE interns, and excited about our incoming group,” said City Manager Seddrick Hill Sr. “Through the internship program, the city has helped cultivate success in students while also establishing a pipeline of talent that will enrich and strengthen our community.”

Thai stated, "I have grown to love and appreciate the City of Talladega and its people because of the opportunities it has given me to grow and how friendly everyone is. It reminds me so much of home because people on the island are very friendly and hospitable and everyone is well acquainted with one another.”
